Why it matters

In spite of all its diverse and important uses, cotton production has devastating side effects. Cotton requires large amounts of water and can often create problems in areas where water is already in short supply. Water contaminated from cotton farming in turn pollutes water supplies. The farmers who grow and harvest regular cotton are exposed to carcinogens and chemicals that can lead to serious neurological disorders.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 20,000 deaths occur each year from pesticide poisoning in developing countries, many of these from cotton farming.

Organic cotton is cotton that is grown without chemical fertilizers, insecticides or pesticide. They ensure that for maintaining soil fertility, there is crop rotation every year. This leaves the soil more nutrient, healthy and rich, the farmers healthier and happier and the environment cleaner and better. Freedom of chemicals in the crop and the fabric manufacturing process implies that one is less exposed to toxic materials thus reducing potential allergic reactions.

With this concern towards the  environment and people’s health and with the ideal of being responsible towards our planet Earth, CAOS has consciously been shifting from ordinary cotton to organic cotton. At present, we are proud that 90% of our in-house production is in certified organic cotton
